The dromer
The Dromer is a five-part dance short film that recontextualizes what it means to live in the “American Dream.”
With a cast representing unique refractions on this concept, it is through a found community that the dancers strive for a better life for themselves and the common good of the whole.

In English, “The Dromer” translates to “The Dreamer.” A dreamer is defined as someone wistfully lost in a fantasy world of their making. But in America, the word “Dream” has held many nuanced meanings in history. From the Dreamer program that has represented a path to legal residency in America to immigrants arriving on the shores of the United States on the promise of the American Dream; America has and continues to represent a path to a better life. But these stories of change have not come without difficulties and those who oppose it. The Dromer combats this negativity by highlighting that we all deserve a seat at the table. While American history is complicated, our cast represents the hope that we can come together and lift each other’s voices without erasing what has happened in the past.
Inspired by the Langston Hughes poem “I, Too, Sing America,” The Dromer is set against the backdrop of a rural location, modern musical arrangements of ancient folk songs, and deeply intimate and physical movement language.
